I need that healthy balance because obviously where I get to a certain point in my life where I may be striving For money at that time, but I'm striving for that money because I need that money to help fulfill my purpose. So Obviously when people see in a certain way, they may be thinking now you're just chasing the money. No, I'm not I'm actually chasing my purpose.
I just need that money to help fulfill that What's going on everybody? I hope you are doing well Welcome to talking to my thoughts where we have open honest and raw conversations about Well our thoughts The topics will range from anxiety life goals relationship kids money work Everything that runs through our head so, you know, the possibilities are going to be endless.
So let's get straight into it So you're here with Craig Revere aka mr. Positive and one's on this aka ting Simon I don't even want to say aka Simon SJ and Denzel then creates Oh So I'm gonna just remove my aka We're gonna get straight into it. We're gonna get straight into it today.
Our topic is money verse purpose and Actually before okay, so I want you to explain because this can actually be interpreted in many different ways So obviously when we're talking about money versus purpose, what's your definition of that? To me I think In myself Sometimes we have like a thing of is it more about our money or is it more about what is fulfilling to us?
So actually purpose to me is about fulfillment and money to me is obviously paying the bills Getting stuffed out of luxury and stuff for that. So when I think about this topic right now I'm not necessarily seeing it as a disconnection But it's almost like which one is more important to me the one or the other which ones I put more time into an energy What about you guys?
Yeah, I think I might understanding of it was a similar thing is obviously where does your priorities lie because obviously we're talking about The comparison versus money versus purpose. So money in terms of do you value money more than you do?
the value of yourself and Your life and how you how you contribute to the world is There's money more more valuable to you than how you are perceived by other people blah blah blah.
That's how I kind of Hmm money And me would be money of us I guess happiness because I would tie in and associate my purpose with something that would continuously bring me happiness and I already know that well money doesn't necessarily equate to that no matter how much of it you have so Yeah, that's how I am looking.
I'm looking at more the sense of money versus Yeah, that's interesting I was interested I already use I've kind of picked up stuff so I'm like, oh I see in that way and funny you and I said like money verse like stuff that is Self-love in a sense and also what you give to the world And I was like interesting some people may think that what they're doing that is getting them a lot of money is Giving themselves a form of love themselves because they get to treat themselves, etc We are definitely going to get into this topic because everyone has a lot of different sides to it as you know in the podcast we always Listen to our thoughts like if we weren't doing that we wouldn't be doing this podcast, you know so we're literally talking to our thoughts where we play a pre recording where we have spoken to ourselves by ourselves about this particular topic and We will listen peacefully and then we will comment and Continue the conversation.
I will kick mine off and We will go from there money verse purpose Where this has been one hell of a debate for a long time ever since I started my career. It's always been the two Now when I first started my career Yeah, you was you as passionate man You loved web development and it's almost really sad that you even lost that because when you lost that it was like bra Who are you gonna do next?
And obviously the whole mr. Positive thing came through which is amazing I think that was the decision where you do is like see they're gonna be money or people bro Like what you choosing? When I chose that it was great. Maybe I went overboard. Maybe I didn't I don't know social media kind of took over my life I Kind of started to think that that's what I'm supposed to be is mr.
Positive or was I supposed to be a pageant king or? There's so many expectations and I like when you let go of that It was good. You felt free No more ego. No more expectations. It was actually really good. You still get to help people We should still do now. We still do it today in different ways.
I believe that good brought you there to do that, but Yeah, it wasn't supposed to be like some kind of career form or anything I was just supposed to be something you just do you live it so money verse purpose, but well right now I don't even like my job that much Like I like it But it doesn't I don't believe in the purpose behind it I think I need to be doing something away.
I believe I'm gonna make something as directly impactful to people Like honestly, I serve people more than anything else But I know my job it facilitates my life and that's what's really important because I've been able to do amazing things this year and being able to help charity help myself Help build things help invest into things.
So actually my job has been I'm super grateful for my job because the team I have People have is amazing So that's so that's something to always stay happy about stay grateful for But at the same time I already know that every single time I want to inch towards purpose purpose Purpose for me is to serve people it feels that way Like the best gift in life is literally is use your gifts to serve other people and you're good at positivity You're good at public speaking.
You're good at problem-solving.
You're good at Just seeing things in a different perspective and this can help a lot of people Not because you're trying to drag them out from where they are and say that you're better than anybody else But you can just see things in a different light and you will help them see the best in themselves And that's what really matters to be honest with you so honestly money verse purpose Money comes and goes run and I think that's how I've been treating it as well I've been trying to invest as well.
I try to still live my life and buy the things I want I still try to take long holidays, which I know is losing my money, but these the stuff I do now are so fulfilling It doesn't even matter fulfillment is The main goal that is what I like our purpose is to fulfill ourselves to pour into ourselves so we can just pour into others without a doubt without even Blinking an eye if I had to focus on money I will always want to accumulate it and never want to give it up The way I have given charity this year given to charity this year.
Yeah, man. I'm proud of you for that So I can see your attachment to money is not strong, but you still need to Somehow accumulate more of it without it taking over you and still live out your purpose. That is the combination right there The purpose is everything well purpose fulfillment. These are the things that really matter Yeah, I'm sure it is but that's what feels good Interesting. Okay.
So one one thing that I actually I know not focused on but something that kind of I Connected with a little bit or just thought about from a different way is that obviously when you talk spoke about money and Then you started talking about your job and work and saying I don't even like my job Why am I doing this? Blah blah blah.
It's interesting how we Connect because we're looking at the two topics of money and purpose and it's interesting how you connected your job the money rather than connecting your job to a purpose and for me when it comes to work, I Try not to connect my job to money I try and connect it to a purpose and For me that makes me always lean towards Fulfillment and having a purpose in anything I do so when it comes to work I'm not looking at it from how much money my making I'm looking at is what am I doing?
How am I contributing? Am I enjoying it? Am I satisfied in where I am the people that I'm with?
do they like me and it's more so from Money is obviously something that's very important because in in terms of how you live your life and get by you have to be able to financially support yourself in several ways, but Money isn't the main focus for me at least anyway And that's something that was interesting for me when you started talking about and you talk about work and money Those two that's where your kind of connection was.
Is that right? Or is that how did you feel when you talk about it? so I've been in my career for about eight years now and When I first started didn't feel like I was doing it for money I actually was doing it because I just loved it. It was fulfilling actually. So that was so web development was my passion program It was my passion. I lived and breathed it.
I'm talking about Average out 50 60 hours a week and it was calm.
They used to pay me I'm like you pay me to do this, but I'll do so home You get me but actually as years have gone on Maybe it's the way that you start to just associate with it Associated with money every project and personal project was always about money And then maybe I've just lived out that that that gift like that gift Well for me was understanding and doing programming. I was really good at it.
But maybe I've just we were multifaceted beings as they class it as and That was actually something where web development was very isolated something you just did on your own I was a very introverted person and that was what I did but then I guess a piece of me wanted to come out and I decided to do more extroverted things like public speaking and Speaking on videos and motivating people and connects new people and this is a very different side to myself So I'm assuming that my my passion just it just died out because it had lived out It's this is time problem is in the real life.
You can't just give up a job That's gonna pay you bags of money and then be like, yes, I'm gonna just Get into something real peaceful right now Live off the trees and stuff, you know, like in the rule Let me not say in the real world, but in this world Money plays a big part in running our lives and it just it just yeah I think you know, then we used to work together.
Yeah, I mean it's interesting because I also I Was put several context. Yeah, we were both web developers Like our nine to five jobs web developers, and we actually used to work together.
So I actually also associate on enough money with My with the job rather than rather than purpose and but I think mine's a bit for a bit of a different reason where I've actually I didn't actually have the background of actually loving programming like Craig did I got into it because man was broke So mine mine my association with it has always been for the money and Up until a few years ago, I wouldn't really necessarily So I actually would have I would have assumed that the money was my purpose at that time So I didn't really have an external purpose yet.
Well over the last couple of Overlast three years. I would say I've developed a purpose which is now filming and erecting and all that kind of stuff outside of work So now that's separate. So now that's my purpose and my job is actually the money and what? Craig said and a word I picked up and I wrote it down really quick was his job facilitates Certain things outside. So maybe that's holidays.
Maybe that's experiences Maybe that's and these things now lead to fulfillment so it's not and it's always it's funny that we're saying money verse purpose, but I feel like these things tie in together very heavily because actually money can Facilitate and be put towards things of purpose for you going forward so we don't necessarily always have to look at as one or the other and it's a case of perspective and what you do with the money because obviously some people just want money for the sake of having money and the thing is when You chase money and and just because you want to be rich or because you want to have money that that never ends There will not be no fulfillment at the end of the tunnel because money is endless It just keeps going and once you reach 100 bags, you're gonna want 200 bags 400 bags It just keeps going.
But if you're actually using the money didn't facilitate a purpose Then that's where the happiness comes from. So remember I said at the beginning. It's for me. It's about happiness. Yeah, and so I Resonate heavily with what he said in terms of the job is over there It's that's where the money is but all the other stuff I want to do Is whether it's where the fulfillment comes from and experiences and stuff like that.
So I kind of agree and disagree in certain points just because I think that Obviously as you said money money's a tool.
So money can be used to help serve your purpose and create fulfillment, but I believe that you can Still create that purpose without money I don't think it connects as much because if you look at someone like I don't know a monk for example Someone that doesn't work for money or their dead job or their life is just having a purpose and being spiritual They they're not making money like that They just live off the land and they do whatever they're doing But they still have a purpose and they they still fulfill whatever they need to fulfill one and serve Their God and do whatever they need to do.
But it's there what they do isn't down to doing a job to earn money Yeah, I think it depends on what the purpose is There isn't it's not necessarily that money has to facilitate purpose But it can depending on what that purpose is and there's some things obviously as you just said in life Which actually don't require any money and it's very fulfilling and you can live a fully fulfilled blessed life without money being a factor Well, it's like just to inject that before we get onto Simon's recording is that for me like that's where I'm standing now When I picked up the Mr Positive part of me insights in the motivation speaking from that day onwards I honestly started to create goals which had nothing to do Monetary for like monetary goals none of them and I have done that for the last What two and a half years now and honestly the growth I've had or fulfillment or happiness or peace all of these things I've had since I came away from it being money-orientated has been it like beyond what I could even imagine So yeah I do fully believe that money does not have to be the attachment to our purpose at all because like I ain't got paid for none Of these jobs like I'm paid for none of these videos I'm really probably you maybe a hundred or something of them already some public speaking didn't get paid I've done more than don't need to get paid like there's so many things I've done which I feel like I'm serving people done Something I don't get paid for it, but I'm still extremely happy So yeah, there are a lot of things you can still do that is your purpose free But the other sides of it or things that are fulfilling is like the charity money and Going on holiday to Saint Lucia and meet my parents or my family and spending time and giving back to myself money So yeah, it's it's it's almost a way It's almost to encapsulate the whole thing is how do you use the tools that you have at your disposal?
To best fulfill and live your purpose. Yeah Let's get straight into Simon's though so money Versus Purpose now There's I guess there's a couple of different ways to interpret What that means? Obviously, I can only give my own interpretation of it and from that just thinking about it.
I understand it to be are you more conscious of Who you are what you do how you provide and You're just your self-awareness or is your priority about Money and being rich and Making sure that people are aware that you're financially comfortable And obviously we see this a lot the time on social media and and How people like to perceive themselves as wealthy when they're not actually wealthy and what they're and it's more so thinking about how people are perceiving them as a wealthy individual now my standpoint on that is I Believe that it's important to be Financially stable that doesn't necessarily mean you have to be rich More so for me my priority would definitely be Having a purpose but also being financially stable There's a balance to everything and I know it says obviously money versus purpose.
Well in many ways They're not really it's not really a case of having one against the other other.
It's about How you can balance Both of them obviously some people's priorities lean more towards one than other Is lean more towards one than other and I try my best to make sure that again, I'm financially stable I'm comfortable and the people I'm able to provide for myself and my family but for me, there's a lot more to it than that and the way life goes you can make as much money in the world as you want, but When you die you die that money and can't into the grave with you and it's important that you when you're alive and when you're living You have a purpose you're you're helping others you're providing you're you're happy and for me that is definitely something which is is very important and I Think that's definitely something that needs to be encouraged in more young people these days, especially because they're seeing so many Celebrities and wealthy people on the TV and on the internet and they think okay That's what they need to strive towards when really You don't know those people's lives a lot of the time they can be depressed I mean you've seen it with celebrities unfortunately taking their own lives just because of what's happening behind the scenes They may be wealthy, but their purpose They don't understand Where they are in life and it's a struggle for them so I definitely think that it's something that I Take on board and make sure that my priority is again To make sure I'm financially stable, but I'm happy I Think some key parts.
I picked up from that were social media fake wealth and Financial stability social media where Which media will have you buying things to impress people you just don't even care for Like really and the part about wealth a lot of the stuff that we associate with what we see on TV and media and stuff That we associate with wealth Reality most of it is borrowed least Stunt in but they ain't got no ownership of stuff So that that to me is not actually wealth But again when you're speaking at to yourself at the time of it You're gonna think Robert is this man doing this and this man's doing this but actually you are I don't know how many times I'll probably talking to Denzel I'm trying to get his car ahead cuz then then I'll start really speaking to Denzel and then those like Yeah, it don't make no sense.
Does it? Don't you know my car still good but this this is reality This is what we're surrounded by like this this this fake wealth in a sense And in reality, that is not actually what we want That is not actually our purpose, but we will almost put all our energy into doing it to trying to fulfill it And I do like the financial stability.
I think I always ask these people this question When I asked them today enjoy their job when I always asked them if your job didn't pay you would you still do it? And they're like, oh hell no.
I'm like So, are you still there is it just are you literally living for money then because it's not your purpose because if you would do it if it was for your purpose and it's fulfilling you and This is and I even asked myself that and I asked myself about this job and I'm like No, I wouldn't because if it's not being give me the money So facility is hating the pieces that I do can push on to purpose So that means I wouldn't do it.
What I would probably do is more helping people I've got people to ask me what do you want to do in the future? Probably like to do a bit more of what I already do a bit of social media here Public speaking here and there give people a bit of advice doing this podcasts like this I've got to do this every single day and my bills will pay. Yo, you can't fool me a lot But yeah, what's your thoughts on that?
Perception we message social media and Pressure that creates and actually the perception it gives that that's what we need to adhere to or achieve it creates almost like a Fake sense of purpose that we see what we see on social media or TV or whatever Especially when you're young because when you're young and your mind is fresh, you're heavily influenced by these things and so when you look in it, you're like Like that's what success means.
That's what That's what being a successful young male or woman example is and so How can I reach them? How can I achieve that? And so it is you then become you then start to chase something that actually In reality, you don't really care much for and and and he also touched on it about what was it?
About the celebrities sometimes Unfortunately taking their taking on their lives because actually all the money and stuff like that Actually a lot of times they end up unhappy anyway, because actually the money is not what fulfills them. Yeah You get to a level of magic.
Imagine completing everything you have ever wanted to achieve and then feeling empty That's mad that when you think about it, but that's but if you were to say as you just said if you were to say are For a cup every day and I did something of purpose like speak on a podcast Go talk to people help people out How can how can you ever feel?
Unhappy doing it, especially if that's something that resonates with you deep down within you get it and you're just saying and my bills Have you covered do you have to worry about that? I'm still getting paid for that.
So for me, I take away from that perception And the pressures it creates And that's why I always tell people Think about what you enjoy doing And try and do more of it And if you can if you find yourself in a position where you can make that your job or make that something You know that can actually facilitate and pay you at the same time Super blessing.
That's a lesson like so go go for heart go full throttle with that and with them like and try and make that you know your long-term goal because You know your long-term goal because They eat there needs to be a there needs to be a means to end as I say there has to be a purpose that you're living for something that you know you want to you want to do what you enjoy doing and Money necessarily as you said earlier on is more of a tool to facilitate things rather than it being the end goal Okay, and of anything as you said when we die You can't take that with us But when we but when we've lived a life a full life of helping people or loving people or living through Experiences and stuff like that when you're on your deathbed, that's what you're gonna be thinking I lived a wealthy life.
My life was and and it has nothing to do with money But I feel I feel blessed a full wealthy and I feel and I feel like I can go in peace So that's why I say for me when I was obviously talking.
It's like I Need as I said, it's just for me but I need that healthy balance because obviously where I get to a certain point in my life where I may be striving for Money at that time, but I'm striving for that money because I need that money to help fulfill my purpose. So Obviously when people see in a certain way, they may be thinking now you're just chasing the money. No, I'm not I'm actually chasing my purpose.
I just need that money to help fulfill that So a lot of the time and it's all about sacrifice as well Especially when you know what your purpose is and you know what you want to do in life You have to make those sacrifices To get that financial stability and be able to then provide to make sure that those purposes are then fulfilled now like how you said that because that's Again social media and media is about instant gratification and like we're looking at boom when you get a paycheck What's that painful stroke?
but in reality You got played a long ball like long boys. Okay, cool So I want to be by the time I reach 30 40 I do I don't want to be working the same 40 hours or 50 hours I'm doing on a spend more time with the kids.
I want to be traveling the world and Performing or doing something like that now to reach those kind of goals You've got to play a long ball, which means right now at this moment What I've been given is this job, which I always wanted But now I'm being ungrateful for it, but I always wanted it Let me let me go to this place build up my money Invest in something when you invest in it.
It starts to return its investments You can park the job if you're if you're that blessed now the investment is there That's playing the long ball and then now you get to travel and do what you need to do.
So again instant gratification is gonna have you feeling like Like you're just living for money and that's it And then when you're living for money and you're trying to escape the this life that you just like you're gonna start spending that money On things that just don't fulfill you and you're just gonna try and find ways to escape like people that are I don't know You maybe you're taking a holiday based on a credit card now You go pay this and you go go back to work where you're paying for something You're not building that these are kind of things these are escapes don't use as an escape use as play the long ball Yeah, play the long ball and I will get you somewhere.
I definitely live to that and don't get me wrong I understand where certain people may come from where they just want because everyone has a different purpose.
Yeah, and everyone Feels that their purpose they can't exactly they haven't discovered it or some people just think okay My purpose is to do this specific thing which needs to happen right now And they may not understand that their purpose isn't about the long game or the long boy It's all about I need to be relevant because that's my purpose I have to be relevant at this moment in time so I can make a difference now because I don't know Whether I'm gonna die next week or whatever.
Some people live like that. That's fair enough.
I don't disagree with that at all It's just understanding what because for me I don't want anyone to listen to this and just take away that okay There's only one way to live your life You have to play the long ball because some people live their life a day at a time and say, you know What I could be dead tomorrow, so I'm gonna go out here and make this money right now I need it right now so I can splash about and live my life happy Yeah, fair enough If that's the way you want to live that's the way you want to live But I want people to take away more.
So is that it shouldn't be the money that's gonna make you happy It's not the money that's making you happy. It's your purpose and understanding what your purpose is Nothing that's important. And I think well, I guess this will interject into our food for thought like something I want you guys to know is that purpose is such an umbrella term and Honestly, we were at this table.
You've probably heard my purpose But you maybe even haven't you haven't even heard Denzel's and Simon's and maybe you don't even know what yours is And I honestly don't want you to be hooked up on the fact that purpose sounds like something that has to be beyond you And it's just that's all it is. Like honestly, there's been stages to us figuring this out for ourselves.
I Always tell people if you have a job you have your kids or you have like your friends and stuff like that What do you do for you? What is it that fulfills you what makes you happy? and That can be some of the weirdest things it could be it could be dancing it could be art.
It can be I don't know posing nude for some art or doing poetry or music or going travel into places What exactly fulfills you and that can be your purpose because sometimes you will want to do that And then I don't know some people do art and then suddenly they want to put in a gallery Well, the gallery really is for everybody else so they can enjoy your art You understand but at first when you was painting your room, it was actually just for you I want you to understand that purpose doesn't have to be something that seems unattainable.
It's just something that fulfills you So find something that fulfills you and spend more time doing it putting more time into yourself And I think that's all I'll leave you with because sometimes purpose seems a bit overwhelming and a bit too much But just find something that fulfills you and start putting more time into it and money into it If you have to just the springboard of that in terms of purpose because there's gonna be loads of people out there that That's fine and if that's if that's the situation in I'll just say Which is something I've learned over the years listening to Or cars reading books mentors and stuff like that and one thing that keeps coming up and and is actually true and is actually actually how I ended up finding my own I would say is just go out there and do things got then try things got there and And don't be you know, don't be scared to get involved with you know You know when you have those feelings as you said, you know, the people have those feelings I've really wanted to do this for the longest time Always meet people like that.
I always meet people that always want to do something but when I say oh, why haven't you done it, they're just like I Just I've got the time or I don't forget that make time for yourself However, you need to go out there and experience things if you try it once or twice and you don't like it cool Move on to the next thing but for me in terms of purpose and it is really something that is such a blanket That statement this is very hard To deconstruct for everyone, but if you don't have one or you feel like you're lacking one Just go out there do as much things as possible get involved in activities explore travel Try new things be creative read books anything can spark a purpose literally anything and Just be more open to saying yes to things and I think that that will find you in the long run Yeah, that's why I would say nice.
All right, I'll wrap it up with my final piece Actually, it's kind of relevant obviously what you've spoke about dense because even from like People will need to understand. Yeah, everything I think everyone has a purpose but not everyone will know what their purpose is straight away Hundred percent. It's always it's a discovery. Everything through life is a journey. It's a discovery.
It's an experience and Same thing when you're in school and you're growing up and everyone's like, oh, what are you gonna do when you finish on?
What's your career gonna be and it's like, I don't know yet I haven't found that you need to have those experience for you to learn and for me like when I when I fell into Working in video and in media that was in the late years of like college And it's only after I had studied so many other different subjects. It was just okay.
I know that's not for me So then really what is my purpose and Purpose can mean so many different things and different people it can be signed to do with your career It can be signed to do with your family for me, it's a combination of a couple of things but definitely is to do with how I kind of serve the people within my community and in the world and that includes family friends how I kind of contribute to their lives and How I kind of make Them better people by me being able to help them and then being able to help me It's all a bit of a give-and-take And I think that's where my purpose is driven from and again when I'm looking at it from a money perspective It's about building that that financial stability where then I can then help people and then at the same time Help my family and help myself So I think that anyone that's listening to this will think okay.
Well, what is my purpose? You guys are talking about money and purpose. I'm not making any money right now, and I don't know what my purpose is Don't worry about it because it's just something that's gonna take time.
I Literally just turned 30 this year and it's only now that certain things are clicking in my head where it's just like, okay This is what is gonna be important to me This is what I need to start doing and this is where I want my life to start going and it's just again Everyone's gonna experience life in different ways and there's no blueprint for any of this So I'll just say just as Denzel said go out there experience life try things and then you'll figure out along the way Yeah, and that's again as it to kind of just extend from what they're saying We none of us have it put together Simple as that like we're here on this podcast doing his podcast because actually you we are speaking about it now Well, if you knew how our mind is on fire at the steam coming out my head right now Just thinking about all the stuff that's been said and like it brings more force.
That's what we're here doing his podcast None of us have it put together Remember that because when you can when you can remember that you won't condemn yourself when you don't know what your purpose is Or your bank accounts looking like 17p, you know, I'm saying just be patient with yourself and just start feeding yourself like giving yourself that's gonna help you grow but as Always we don't want to be just Making you the consumer we had to for you to be the producer of your own stories as well So if you have things that you want to share with us or anything that you want to talk about In regards to money verse purpose or even other things anyway, what is your purpose?
What do you do with your time? What would you like to do? Or if you have a completely different outlook that money money makes the world go around we want to hear it You know, it's this talk. So thank you for listening to us DMR see mail us and Thank you for having us Blessings
