Daily practice

Journal prompts for self-discovery

Short reflection questions for adults who want a private starting point: self-discovery, a daily check-in, gratitude, or what you are feeling. Written with men in mind, and useful if a blank page is the thing stopping you. Reflective practice, not therapy.

For a longer guided journey, open the reflection workbook. To hear men talk it through, start with the podcast, including Am I good enough as a father?.

Use this when

  • You have a few quiet minutes and want a starting point, not a blank page.
  • Something feels heavy and you want language before you talk to anyone.
  • You want a private check-in that stays on this device only.

What is one thing you like about who you are becoming?

More you can do at home

The free Co-parenting Fathers Reflection Guide has further questions for fathers under co-parenting strain. It is a reflection resource, sent by email, not a parenting plan.

How to start

  1. Pick Discovery, Gratitude or Feelings, or leave the tool on Random.
  2. Read one question and write a few honest lines in the box. A short answer is enough.
  3. Save the entry if you want to come back to it. It stays in this browser until you delete it.

Questions you can use

These are the questions the writing box draws from. The box is above, so you can start with one. The full set stays here.

Discovery

Questions for noticing who you are becoming, and what enough means today.

  1. What is one thing you like about who you are becoming?
  2. What is a boundary you need to set to protect your peace?
  3. What does 'enough' look like for you today?

Gratitude

Small, specific moments. Not a performance of being positive.

  1. What is one small victory you experienced this week?
  2. Who is someone that makes your life easier, and have you told them?
  3. Describe a moment recently where you felt completely at peace.

Feelings

Name what is stirring, including worry, before you decide what to do with it.

  1. What is the worst-case scenario you are worrying about, and how would you actually handle it?
  2. What is one thing purely within your control right now?
  3. If fear wasn't a factor, what is one decision you would make today?
